Submissions
Author Guidelines
To submit a work for publication in the Journal for Global Negotiation, authors need to:
- identify the type of submission they would like to publish (Section 1),
- make sure that their submission meets the Journal’s submission and manuscript requirements (Section 2), and
- submit the manuscript according to the Journal’s submission procedure (Section 3).
After submission:
- All manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review process (Section 4).
- Accepted articles are published and copyright license CC-BY 4.0 (Attribution 4.0 International) is applied (Section 5).
- Accepted articles are freely accessible according to the Diamond Open Access model. The Journal does not charge any publication fees to authors (Section 6).
1. Submission Types
The Journal for Global Negotiation accepts three types of submissions:
- Research Articles
These are analytical or research-based works within the aims & scope of the Journal. They include analyses of case-studies, thematic analyses, examinations of a negotiation issue, or the development of new theories. - Negotiation Reflections
These are critical and rigorous research based reflections on a negotiation process in which the author was directly involved or of which the author has direct knowledge (e.g., through interviews with parties to the negotiation). - Perspectives in Practice
These are short, focused, pieces offering a commentary, personal insights, or experiential accounts related to global negotiation. This category allows for reflections on broader negotiation trends, practical challenges faced in real-world settings, or opinion pieces informed by the author's direct negotiation experience.
2. Submission and Manuscript Requirements
All submissions must comply with the following requirements:
| Manuscript originality | The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration. |
| Authors | All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Authors are required to provide information on their institution affiliation, research interests and work/academic experience. |
| Publication permissions | Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included in the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. Where appropriate, research must be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country. |
In addition, all submitted manuscripts must comply with the following requirements:
| Submission Files | Submissions must include: (1) the manuscript in anonymized form, (2) an accompanying file indicating the name(s) of the author(s), their affiliation, and the submission type, i.e., whether the manuscript is a research article, negotiation reflection, or perspective in practice, (3) any other optional additional materials such as data sets, conflict of interest statements, or other supplementary files if these will be helpful for our editors. |

| Language | Authors are asked to respect English language typographical conventions. American or British English are accepted. If English is not your native language you can reach out to the Editorial Team for support. |

| Cover page | Submission must include a cover page including the title, author(s) name(s), and the abstract (if needed). The title of the submission should be in bold, capitalized and centered at the top of the page in font 14 pt; the name of the author should be in a line directly below the submission title, in font 11 pt. The body of the submission should follow on the page thereafter. |
| Manuscript formatting |

| References | All references in your manuscript must be formatted using APA 7 citation style. |
| Abbreviations | Commonly and internationally known abbreviations such as “e.g.”, “etc.”, “fig.” can be used. Specific abbreviations can be used only after explicitly writing the full phrase followed by the abbreviation in round brackets. Example: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has issued (…). As such, the IAEA attempted to (…). |
| Footnotes | Footnotes are dedicated only to short comments or to supplemental information, they should be avoided in case of a single citation. References are not to be entered as footnotes. |
| Tables and figures | Tables and figures must be numbered with Arabic numerals and follow APA 7 style. Each table and figure must have a clear and concise title, including information about its source. |
3. Submission Procedures
The submission procedure varies depending on the submission type:
- Research articles are submitted directly by the author(s). The submission must include (1) the name of the faculty or organization under which the work was carried out, (2) the name and title of the author(s), (3) a brief declaration of relevance to global negotiation.
If the author(s) belongs to one of the Journal’s Partners, the submission should only include (1) the name of the faculty or organization under which the work was carried out and (2) the name of the Primary Contact Person (as defined in the Partnership Agreement between the journal and the partner institution). - Negotiation Reflections are submitted directly by the author(s) or their office staff with the author(s) in carbon copy (cc) and the submission must include: (1) a general description of the conflict (subjects, positions, interests and scale), (2) the parties involved, (3) the negotiators/mediators involved, (4) the location and type of negotiation (e.g., whether it is formal or informal, political, personal, or legal).
- Perspectives in Practice are submitted directly by the author(s), and submission must include: (1) a general overview of the subject topic of the perspective, (2) a Curriculum Vitae of the author(s), and (3) the role of the author(s) and connection to the analyzed topic.
The Journal for Global Negotiation partners with university faculty members, NGOs, and Initiatives, which are then able to nominate outstanding work in the field of global negotiation produced by their members. 4. Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo an initial desk review to assess their suitability and compliance with the journal's scope and guidelines. Submissions that pass this preliminary evaluation proceed to a double-blind peer review process.
During the peer review, authors will receive detailed feedback from the reviewer(s). Authors are required to submit a response letter that details the revisions made to the manuscript and the rationale behind each change. This letter should comprehensively address each point raised by the reviewer(s). Submissions may undergo multiple revision cycles before final acceptance for publication.

5. Article Processing Charges
The Journal is Diamond Open Access, thus accepted articles are made freely accessible and discoverable through internet search. The journal does not ask any fees to authors to process and publish articles.
6. Copyright Notice
The Journal operates under Swiss Intellectual Property Law.
- The Author retains the intellectual ownership of their work.
- The Author grants the Journal the right to publish, distribute, and promote the work under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, unless specified otherwise by mutual agreement. The specific terms of the CC BY license are detailed in an addendum attached to this Agreement.
- The Author retains the right to republish the work in other venues, provided that the Journal is cited the place of first publication, by including a full citation (Journal name, Volume Number, Year of Publication, DOI/ISSN and URL) as to the published Journal article.
The Journal licenses all its publications under Creative Commons. The specific license used by the Journal is the CC-BY 4.0 (Attribution 4.0 International). Full license details can be found here.
